The Magnificat, with Amy Peeler

Amy Peeler, Wheaton College

Dr. Amy Peeler, Associate Professor of New Testament, has authored You Are My Son: The Family of God in the Epistle to the Hebrews (T&T Clark, 2015) along with articles on a range of NT texts and topics. Her next book, focused on the Incarnation and entitled Mother of God, will be published in 2022 (Eerdmans). She has team-taught a course on Mary, the mother of Jesus, and in this conversation she explains the contextual meaning, artistic form, and the liturgical importance of Mary’s song, known traditionally as the Magnificat.

“Exegetically Speaking” is a weekly podcast of the friends and faculty of Wheaton College, IL and The Lanier Theological Library. Parables from the Pandemic, Christine Galib

Dr. Christine Galib is a reader, a writer, an educator, and an entrepreneur.  Perhaps more importantly, she is a seeker of Truth.  In this podcast, she talks with David Capes about her new book, Parables from the Pandemic: Holding onto Hope in a Hurting World.   She dedicated it to all who passed away and all who suffered loss as a result of the Covid pandemic.  Dr. Galib has written twelves parables—one a poem, one a tweet!—that illustrate the harshness of this fallen world and yet speak Truth and offer hope.  Inspired by Dante Alighieri, John Milton, Jesus, C. S. Everyday Exegesis, Steven Runge

Dr. Steven Runge

Steven Runge has had an interesting career.  He earned his PhD at the University of Stellenbosch and is considered widely an expert in biblical studies, particularly discourse analysis. He is the editor and co-editor for a number of books which are available through his website, www.everydayexegesis.com.  He has been an adjunct faculty member and visiting scholar at a number of schools in North America. For a time, he served as Scholar-in-Residence at Logos Bible Software.  He and his wife stopped by the Lanier Theological Library and spoke with David Capes about his life, linguistics and discourse analysis.  Recently, he started a website called everydayexegesis.com which aims to help people study the Bible more effectively for their everyday lives.  To learn more go to www.everydayexegesis.com.

Thirsting for Living Water, Mike Mantel

Mike Mantel, CEO of Living Water International

Dr. Michael (Mike) Mantel serves as the CEO and president of Living Water International, a global organization involved in integral mission in 18 countries. He is also the author of a new book entitled, Thirsting for Living Water (InterVarsity Press, 2021). The book details Mike’s own story of faith and how he experienced the “dark night of the soul” a few years ago and found his way back into the arms of a faithful God.  Mike’s story is not unique.  Many have experienced the absence of God during key trials of life.  But Mike’s story is one that gives hope.  In fact, Mike hopes to publish the stories of any and all who are willing to share them on his special website:www.thirstingforlivingwater.com.  To learn more about Living Water International go to www.water.cc.

Lynn Cohick serves as provost and dean of academic affairs at Northern Seminary in Chicagoland.  She joins David Capes on The Stone Chapel podcast to talk about her spiritual journey and calling.  She discusses the unique niche Northern Seminary has in theological education.  Recently, the school has created a MA in Women’s Studies and Center for Women in Leadership which they believe will inspire many gifted women to seek training for a variety of leadership positions in their churches.
