Dr. Amy Peeler, associate professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, endorses the impulse toward gender inclusive language in translation. But in some cases she thinks exclusive language may better capture the argument of the text. In Hebrews 2:10 she suggests it is better to read “children” (NRSV) or “sons and daughters” (NIV) as “sons” because of its Christological implications, and subsequent empowerment of female readers.
